Trevor Browne’s Cross Country and Track runners cover a lot of real estate during the year, but now they have some real estate partners who have the Bruins covered. The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals of Arizona (NAHREPAZ) presented a check for $5,000 to the track/cross country teams, December 21. The proceeds were the result of one of the association’s member winning a dance contest at its Noche de Gala, December 10. Grey Sehnert designated Trevor Browne Cross Country and Track her organization of choice, and went on to win the “Dancing with the Stars’ contest. The NAHREPAZ with Sehnert’s Fred Astaire dance instructor presented the check at the school. The check presentation is just part of the story.
Browne’s Cross Country team, coached by Robert Mika, has been all over the city volunteering in different events. They met some of the realtors at a race, and were invited to help out the Hispanic Realtors’ annual 5K American Dream Run in October. The realtor group was impressed with the students, and realized their difficulty in getting to college.
“Gail Buck, the President, contacted me and wanted to help these kids get to college and give them the same high school experience other, more affluent students have,” Mika said.
They donated shirts and hats for the kids to train in. They took the kids to the Runners Den shoe store and bought the kids running shoes, the first time many of them have ever owned new running shoes.
The realtors, mostly Hispanic women, want to mentor the student/athletes and try to eventually provide college scholarships. Some of the women would like to relate their career stories with the students.
