Metro Tech was one of the stops for Future Sun Devil Signing Day, Thursday, April 27, welcoming seniors who have chosen Arizona State University. ASU arrived in a double decker-wrapped bus with ASU Admission Services staff, other ASU personnel, ASU media, Sparky, music, and lots of ASU paraphernalia. Students signed posters showing their commitment to ASU and took pictures to post on social media. Metro Tech had 45 students officially committed to ASU. Metro also had the highest FAFSA completion rate among PUHSD schools, at 55%, Metro students applied for the most colleges and universities in last fall’s College Application Campaign. The best news is that most of the students were getting full rides thanks to College Attainment Grants, in which students can qualify for ASU with a 3.0 or 22 ACT score if their families earn less than $42,400 per year. Some of the students are also participating in ASU’s Pro-Mod program, which stands for project-based, modular learning. The students work across disciplines on real world projects, interacting with university faculty and students. Phoenix Union teachers teach the courses in a project-based format and students receive 13 ASU credits upon successful completion of project criteria and enrollment at ASU directly after high school.
