Joseph De La Cruz of the Phoenix Coding Academy’s Robotics Club was named as the Support My Club Student of the Week for February 22. He was selected due to his dedication and hard work as treasurer and historian of the club.
Club sponsor, George Cardenas, says he is "blown away" by the student's dedication to robotics.
"He always finds time to learn new skills and work in the shop," Cardenas said. “Through his participation in robotics, De La Cruz says he's learned excellent leadership and teamwork skills.”
Phoenix Coding Academy Robotics Club has received two items (valued at $80) to date.
Support My Club is an e-commerce solution where donors can support the needs of high school clubs and sports. Clubs post their specific needs and donors “shop” for items that speak to them. Items are added to the online cart, donors make a 100% tax-deductible purchase and Support My Club delivers the item directly to the club. For every $100 of value received, the club completes one hour of community service, allowing the receiver to become the giver and the cycle of philanthropy to continue.
While in its' pilot year, the all-freshmen robotics team took home third place overall in the Velocity Vortex semi-finals competition recently and received their very first trophy.
