Academic Cultural Exchange program

Some students walk to school, some drive or take the bus, but 13 new students this year had to fly 20 hours and over 7,000 miles to get to their new schools. These students are from Lanzhou, (Lan-Jo) China, and they will be spending their senior year of high school with Phoenix Union, in hopes of going to universities in the United States. It is part of an Academic Cultural Exchange program. The students will be attending four different high schools, engaged in Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge classes. They will live with host families, many of whom are Phoenix Union Employees. The students and their hosts were introduced at the August 7 Governing Board meeting. They exchanged gifts with the Governing Board and Leadership staff, and two students performed Chinese music.
There are five students attending Cesar Chavez, four at Betty Fairfax, two at Central High, and two at Bioscience.
