Maryvale has a new football stadium field, thanks to the Arizona Cardinals, Walmart and their “Neighborhood Heroes” program. The donation, valued at $102,000 included turf installation, irrigation system, materials, supplies and labor. It will be used for football, soccer, track and field, band practices and school performances, and for the PE classes. A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place October 11, prior to the Panthers football game with Cesar Chavez. Nicole Bidwell and Adam Richman of the Cardinals community relations department, Cardinal cheerleaders and representatives from Walmart attended the ceremony, along with former Maryvale football players as well as this year’s team. The Cardinals grounds keeping staff came out to paint the end zones for the game.
This is the second of two field dedications this season as part of the “Neighborhood Heroes” program The Cardinals and Walmart dedicated a new field and scoreboard at Dobson High School in late August. They will renovate two more high school football fields in 2014 and those schools will be chosen at the beginning of next year.
