Bioscience finished 18th in the 40-school State Academic Decathlon, March 9-10 at ASU West.  Mackenzie Kong-Sivert led the Dragons with 7,123.8 points, the 8th best score among Scholastic Division competitors.  During the awards ceremony, Alhambra, which finished 21st was named the Rookie Team of the Year.  Later, it was discovered that Bioscience, which finished 19th, was also making its first appearance at State.  The award is traditionally given to the team with the highest score in its first appearance.  After the ceremony, it was determined that Bioscience had edged Alhambra, but the officials assumed  it was Bioscience’s first time.  All was forgiven, when Arizona Academic Decathlon officials decided that both teams would be Rookie of the Year, for 2013.
