Twenty-seven Trevor Browne students performed Handel’s Messiah with The Phoenix Symphony, December 7 at Grand Canyon University Arena. The Symphony was joined by the Grand Canyon High School and Community College Festival Chorus and GCU’s Choral Union. Over 500 musicians were on stage, including TGB Choir teacher Nick Halonen.
“This was a completely optional activity for my students. Each of the students that chose to participate rehearsed on their own with practice CDs,” Halonen said. “We had one rehearsal with the GCU choirs Monday and another rehearsal with the Phoenix Symphony at the arena on Thursday. “
“This is an incredible event that absolutely changed my life last year. My educational philosophy changed drastically as I watched my students perform with such high caliber musicians. It was amazing to see what my students could accomplish when faced with the tremendous rigor of this masterpiece.”
