CCHS is an AVID National Certified School. Our mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

To reach more students, we have increased AVID sections from 14 last year to 17 this year and student enrollment from 247 to 395 across 9-12 grade levels.  We have the largest program in Phoenix Union High School District and the Western Division region of the AVID Center.

AVID features a rigorous academic elective course with a sequential curriculum for grades 9 through 12 that focuses on note-taking, organizing, writing as a tool of learning, inquiry and collaboration as methodologies to accelerate student progress. Our AVID team is working on developing cross-grade vertical curriculum alignment for instructional consistency and effectiveness. Our tutorial sessions focus on student higher order thinking and problem solving to adequately prepare them for the 21st century.

Although the AVID program is designed to help students in the middle prepare for college, we believe AVID Strategies benefit all students. We have been implementing AVID methodology including Cornell notes, binders, and AVID Critical Reading strategies school-wide. We will extend Tutorology to Advisory teachers for school-wide increased academic performance.
